Macronio - Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy for Macronio
Effective date: September 24, 2026
Last updated: September 24, 2026
Macronio is a minimal, native iOS application for tracking calories and macronutrients. It allows you to log foods and recipes, record portion sizes and meals, set or calculate daily nutrition goals, review your nutrition history, create reusable foods and recipes, scan barcodes and nutrition labels, synchronize supported data through Apple iCloud/CloudKit, and access optional Premium features that may be offered through the Apple App Store.
This Privacy Policy explains how Macronio handles information when you use the application, its synchronization, food-search, barcode-scanning, nutrition-label-scanning, subscription, and support features.
In this Policy, “Macronio,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Marcelo (Marc) Vitoria, the developer and publisher of Macronio, located in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
By using Macronio, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Privacy at a Glance
Macronio is designed around the following principles:
- Your nutrition records are stored locally on your device using Apple-provided storage technologies.
- Supported app records are configured to synchronize through Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit services when iCloud is available for the Apple Account used on your device.
- Macronio does not require a separate Macronio account, username, or password.
- Macronio does not operate a separate developer-controlled server that stores your food diary, recipes, goals, or profile data.
- Nutrition-label text recognition is performed on-device using Apple’s Vision framework.
- Barcode capture is performed on-device, while the barcode identifier is sent to Open Food Facts when you request a product lookup.
- Food search queries are sent to USDA FoodData Central when you use remote food search.
- Macronio does not sell your personal information.
- Macronio does not use your nutrition or profile information for advertising.
- Macronio does not use third-party advertising SDKs or track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
- Macronio does not currently use third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- If you purchase a Premium subscription, payment processing is handled by Apple. Macronio does not receive or store your full payment-card details.
2. Scope of This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- The Macronio iOS application;
- Local storage of Macronio records;
- iCloud/CloudKit synchronization used by Macronio;
- Food search through USDA FoodData Central;
- Barcode product lookup through Open Food Facts;
- Camera-based barcode and nutrition-label scanning;
- Macronio Premium subscription and entitlement functionality, if offered;
- Limited diagnostics or information made available through Apple platform services; and
- Information you voluntarily provide when contacting us for support.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, applications, databases, or services that Macronio may link to or rely on. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies and terms.
3. Information Macronio Handles
3.1 Food Diary and Nutrition Information
Macronio allows you to enter, create, or manage information such as:
- Foods you log;
- Recipes and recipe ingredients;
- Meal types, such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks;
- Portion sizes, serving amounts, and serving units;
- Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and other nutrition values supported by the app;
- Dates and times associated with food entries;
- Custom foods you create;
- Nutrition information obtained from food search, barcode lookup, or label scanning;
- Daily totals and historical nutrition summaries; and
- Other nutrition-related information you choose to enter into the app.
Depending on how you use Macronio, this information may reveal information about your diet, eating habits, or health-related goals and may be treated as sensitive personal information in some jurisdictions.
Macronio processes this information to provide the tracking, calculation, history, and synchronization features you request.
3.2 Profile and Goal Information
Macronio may allow you to enter profile information used to calculate or manage nutrition goals, including:
- Age;
- Sex used by the goal-calculation formula;
- Height;
- Weight;
- Activity level;
- Goal-related adjustments or preferences;
- Daily calorie goals;
- Daily protein, carbohydrate, and fat goals; and
- Other values you choose to provide when configuring your goals.
Macronio may use these values to calculate suggested calorie and macronutrient targets and to display progress against the goals you select.
Macronio is a nutrition tracking tool. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition, and its goal calculations are not a substitute for professional medical or nutritional advice.
3.3 Local Storage
Macronio uses Apple’s SwiftData technology to store application data locally on your device. Stored records may include:
- Food entries;
- Foods and custom foods;
- Recipes and recipe ingredients;
- Nutrition goals;
- User profile information;
- Meal and serving information;
- Historical records derived from your logged entries;
- Record identifiers and timestamps; and
- Technical metadata needed for persistence and synchronization.
We do not operate a separate Macronio account database or developer-controlled server that receives and stores this nutrition information.
3.4 iCloud and CloudKit Synchronization
Macronio’s persistence layer is configured to use Apple’s CloudKit synchronization through SwiftData. When iCloud is available for the Apple Account signed in on your device, supported Macronio records may be stored in and synchronized through Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit infrastructure.
Synchronized information may include:
- Food entries;
- Foods and custom foods;
- Recipes and recipe items;
- Nutrition goals;
- User profile information;
- Record identifiers;
- Creation and modification timestamps;
- Deletion and synchronization metadata; and
- Other metadata needed to keep supported devices consistent.
The purpose of this processing is to:
- Keep supported Macronio records synchronized across eligible devices using the same Apple Account;
- Restore synchronized records when Macronio is used on another eligible device;
- Merge changes made on different devices;
- Retry interrupted synchronization; and
- Allow the app to continue working with locally available information when synchronization is temporarily unavailable.
Apple processes iCloud and CloudKit information under Apple’s own terms and privacy policies. We do not use your iCloud-synchronized nutrition records for advertising, data brokerage, or third-party profiling.
Because CloudKit data is associated with your Apple Account and stored through Apple’s infrastructure, we may not be able to directly view, export, or delete your private synchronized records on your behalf.
3.5 Food Search Through USDA FoodData Central
Macronio may query USDA FoodData Central when you search for foods.
When a search request is made, USDA or the infrastructure used to provide the service may receive information normally associated with an internet request, including:
- The food search terms you enter;
- Request date and time;
- Your IP address;
- Application or API request information; and
- General network and device information made available through the request.
Search terms may reveal dietary interests. Macronio is designed to send only the information needed to perform the search. We do not intentionally send your complete food diary, recipes, body measurements, nutrition goals, or history to USDA FoodData Central.
Information returned by USDA may be stored locally in Macronio when needed to display search results or when you choose to create or log an item based on those results.
USDA processes requests under its own privacy practices and terms.
3.6 Barcode Scanning and Open Food Facts
Macronio can use your device camera to scan supported barcodes. Barcode capture is performed using Apple’s AVFoundation framework.
When you request a product lookup, the scanned barcode or product identifier is sent to Open Food Facts so the app can retrieve available product and nutrition information.
Open Food Facts or the infrastructure used to provide the service may receive:
- The barcode or product identifier;
- Request date and time;
- Your IP address;
- Application or API request information; and
- General network and device information made available through the request.
Macronio does not intentionally send your complete food diary, recipes, body measurements, nutrition goals, or history to Open Food Facts as part of a barcode lookup.
Information returned by Open Food Facts may be stored locally in Macronio if you choose to create or log a food based on the result.
Open Food Facts processes requests under its own privacy practices and terms.
3.7 Nutrition-Label Scanning and Camera Access
Macronio may request camera access so you can scan nutrition labels and barcodes.
For nutrition-label scanning, Macronio uses Apple’s Vision framework to recognize text from the camera image and parse nutrition values on-device. Macronio does not intentionally upload nutrition-label images to a Macronio-controlled server for text recognition.
For barcode scanning, Macronio uses AVFoundation to recognize the barcode on-device. The barcode identifier may then be transmitted to Open Food Facts as described above.
Camera access is used only when you choose a feature that requires it. You can revoke Macronio’s camera permission through iOS Settings, although camera-based scanning features will no longer work while permission is disabled.
Scanning results are provided as a starting point for your review. You should confirm recognized nutrition information before saving it.
3.8 Subscription and Purchase Information
Macronio may offer optional auto-renewable Premium subscriptions through the Apple App Store. Apple processes subscription purchases and payment information.
Macronio may receive or process limited purchase information required to provide Premium access, such as:
- The subscription product selected;
- Purchase and transaction status;
- Whether a Premium entitlement is active;
- Subscription expiration or renewal information;
- Whether a subscription change is pending;
- Restore-purchase results; and
- Other information needed to determine access to Premium functionality.
We do not receive or store your full credit-card number, bank-account details, or other payment credentials. Subscription billing, cancellation, refunds, and payment processing are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy practices.
3.9 App and System Diagnostics
Macronio does not currently integrate third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
Apple may collect and process application diagnostics, crash information, App Store usage information, or related technical data according to your device settings and Apple’s services. Depending on Apple’s developer tools and the information made available to developers, we may receive limited technical or aggregated information useful for diagnosing crashes or improving Macronio.
Such information may include:
- App version;
- Device model;
- Operating-system version;
- Crash or termination information;
- Stack traces or technical error information;
- Performance information; and
- Aggregated App Store metrics.
We do not intentionally include your food diary, recipes, body measurements, nutrition goals, or profile content in developer-defined analytics events because Macronio does not currently use a third-party analytics SDK.
3.10 Support Communications
If you contact us, we may receive:
- Your name or email address;
- The content of your message;
- Screenshots, screen recordings, logs, or files you choose to provide;
- Device, operating-system, and app-version information;
- Purchase or subscription details needed to investigate an issue; and
- Any other information you voluntarily include.
Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive nutrition information, medical information, passwords, payment-card details, or other information unrelated to your support request.
We use support information to answer your request, investigate technical issues, improve Macronio, prevent abuse, and maintain records of communications where reasonably necessary.
3.11 Information We Do Not Request
Macronio does not require or request:
- A separate Macronio account password;
- Online-banking or financial-account credentials;
- Government identification documents;
- Full credit-card numbers;
- Access to your contacts;
- Precise location;
- Access to Apple Health or HealthKit data under the currently documented implementation; or
- Access to medical records from healthcare providers.
Macronio does process the profile, body-measurement, nutrition, and diet information that you voluntarily enter into the app for its tracking and goal features.
4. How We Use Information
We use information handled through Macronio to:
- Provide and maintain the application;
- Save and display your food diary;
- Calculate calories and macronutrients for logged portions;
- Group entries by meal and date;
- Create and present nutrition history;
- Save and reuse custom foods and recipes;
- Calculate or display nutrition goals;

- Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
We do not use your nutrition or profile information to make employment, insurance, credit, lending, or other eligibility decisions.
We do not perform automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you.
5. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on one or more of the following.
Performance of a Contract
We process information when necessary to provide Macronio and the features you request, including local record management, food logging, goal calculation, food search, barcode lookup, scanning, subscriptions, entitlement verification, and CloudKit synchronization.
Consent and Your Choices
We rely on your choice or consent where appropriate, including when you:
- Enter profile or nutrition information;
- Grant camera permission;
- Use a network-based food search or barcode lookup;
- Purchase a subscription;
- Voluntarily contact support; or
- Enable or use platform features that require a specific type of processing.
You may withdraw a permission or stop using a feature where technically available. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before the change.
Health-Related or Sensitive Information
Depending on applicable law and how you use Macronio, body measurements, diet information, nutrition goals, and food history may qualify as health-related, sensitive, or special-category personal information.
Macronio processes this information primarily because you choose to enter it and request nutrition-tracking functionality. Where applicable law requires an additional condition or explicit consent for processing sensitive information, we rely on the lawful basis appropriate to the requested feature and the way the information is processed, including your explicit action in providing or using the information where legally sufficient.
Macronio is designed to minimize developer access to this information by keeping app records on your device and within your private Apple iCloud/CloudKit environment rather than storing them on a separate Macronio-controlled server.
Legitimate Interests
Where permitted, we may process limited support, security, diagnostic, and operational information to:
- Maintain and improve Macronio;
- Diagnose technical problems;
- Prevent fraud or misuse;
- Protect users and the application; and
- Understand whether the application is functioning as intended.
We balance these interests against your privacy rights and aim to minimize the information used.
Legal Obligations and Legal Claims
We may process or retain information when necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
6. Local Storage, iCloud, and Device Backups
6.1 Local Storage
Macronio stores supported app records locally on your device. They generally remain there until you delete them using available app controls, reset application data where supported, or uninstall the application.
Uninstalling Macronio normally removes locally stored application data from that device. However, information may remain in iCloud/CloudKit, Apple-managed device backups, or another device where synchronization previously occurred.
6.2 iCloud and CloudKit Storage
Macronio is configured to synchronize supported SwiftData records through CloudKit when iCloud is available.
CloudKit synchronization is associated with the Apple Account signed in on your device. Macronio does not require a separate synchronization username or password.
Supported synchronized records may remain in your private iCloud storage until they are deleted through Macronio, removed through Apple’s available iCloud data-management options, or otherwise handled according to Apple’s services and retention practices.
Deleting a supported record while synchronization is active is intended to propagate that deletion to other synchronized Macronio installations. Synchronization may be delayed when a device is offline, iCloud is unavailable, or Apple services are interrupted.
Turning off or restricting iCloud access through Apple’s system or account settings may stop future synchronization on a device, but it does not necessarily delete information already stored in iCloud or on another device.
Uninstalling Macronio from one device does not necessarily delete records already stored in iCloud.
Because synchronized records are associated with your Apple Account and stored through Apple’s infrastructure, we may not be able to directly access or delete those private records on your behalf.
6.3 Device Backups
Depending on your iOS and iCloud settings, Apple may include local application data in device backups. Backup creation, retention, encryption, restoration, and deletion are controlled by Apple and your device settings.
7. Camera, Scanning, and On-Device Processing
Macronio is designed to keep camera-based recognition local where practical.
Nutrition Labels
Nutrition-label images are analyzed using Apple’s Vision framework on the device. Recognized values are presented for your confirmation before they are stored as Macronio records.
Macronio does not intentionally send the nutrition-label image itself to USDA FoodData Central or Open Food Facts as part of this OCR flow.
Barcodes
The device camera recognizes supported barcodes using AVFoundation. If you request a product lookup, the barcode identifier is sent to Open Food Facts. The barcode image itself is not intentionally uploaded to a Macronio-controlled server for recognition.
Permission Control
You can control camera access through iOS Settings. Revoking camera access prevents camera-based scanning but does not delete previously saved Macronio records.
8. How We Share Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
We may disclose or transmit limited information in the circumstances described below.
8.1 Service Providers and External Data Sources
| Provider or category | Purpose | Information potentially processed |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | App distribution, StoreKit subscriptions and entitlements, iCloud/CloudKit synchronization, device backups, camera/OS frameworks, App Store services, and platform diagnostics | Purchase status, technical identifiers, synchronized Macronio records, device/service information, and Apple-managed diagnostics |
| USDA FoodData Central | Remote food search | Search terms and ordinary network-request information such as IP address, request time, and API request metadata |
| Open Food Facts | Barcode-based product and nutrition lookup | Scanned barcode/product identifier and ordinary network-request information such as IP address, request time, and API request metadata |
These providers process information under their own terms, privacy policies, and legal obligations.
Macronio does not intentionally send your complete food diary, recipes, body measurements, profile, nutrition goals, or history to USDA FoodData Central or Open Food Facts as part of ordinary search or barcode requests.
8.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information under our control if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable government request;
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of Macronio, our users, or the public;
- Detect, prevent, or investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, or technical problems; or
- Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Because we do not operate a separate Macronio server that stores your local nutrition records, we generally do not possess those private app records for disclosure. Records synchronized through iCloud/CloudKit are subject to Apple’s systems and lawful-request procedures.
8.3 Business Transfers
If Macronio or substantially all related assets are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, financing, sale, or transfer, limited information under our control may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and appropriate safeguards.
8.4 With Your Direction or Consent
We may disclose information when you direct us to do so or provide valid consent.
9. Advertising, Tracking, and Sale of Data
Macronio does not:
- Display third-party behavioral advertising;
- Sell personal information;
- Sell nutrition, profile, or health-related information;
- Share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising;
- Use advertising identifiers to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies;
- Provide your food diary or profile information to data brokers; or
- Use third-party advertising SDKs under the currently documented implementation.
If these practices change, we will update this Privacy Policy and obtain any permissions required by law or Apple policies before the change takes effect.
10. Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy.
Nutrition, Profile, Goal, and Recipe Records
Local Macronio records remain on your device until you delete them using available controls, reset application data where supported, or uninstall Macronio.
Records synchronized through iCloud/CloudKit remain subject to your deletion actions, synchronization state, Apple Account settings, and Apple’s retention practices.
Subscription Information
Subscription and transaction records are retained by Apple according to Apple’s legal and operational requirements. Macronio may retain or cache limited entitlement information for as long as necessary to provide Premium access, restore purchases, resolve subscription status, and meet legal obligations.
External Food Search and Barcode Requests
USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts determine retention of network-request information under their own privacy practices and operational policies.
Macronio does not maintain a separate server-side history of your ordinary USDA food searches or Open Food Facts barcode lookups under the currently documented implementation.
Apple Diagnostics
Any diagnostic or App Store information processed by Apple is retained according to Apple’s settings and policies. Information made available to us through Apple developer services may be retained only as long as reasonably necessary to diagnose issues, maintain the app, and satisfy legal obligations.
Support Communications
Support correspondence may be retained for as long as needed to resolve your request, maintain a history of the issue, prevent abuse, satisfy legal obligations, and improve support. We may remove or anonymize it when it is no longer needed.
Legal Retention
We may retain limited information longer when necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, or defend legal claims.
11. Deleting and Controlling Your Information
11.1 Delete Food Entries and User-Created Records
You can delete supported food entries, custom foods, recipes, or other records using Macronio’s available controls.
When iCloud/CloudKit synchronization is active, supported deletions are intended to synchronize to other devices. A deletion may not appear immediately on offline devices.
11.2 Edit Profile and Nutrition Goals
You can edit supported profile values and nutrition goals through Macronio’s available settings and goal-management interfaces.
Changing a value updates the app data used for future displays and calculations but does not necessarily remove older nutrition records that were logged before the change.
11.3 Control iCloud
You can control iCloud availability through Apple’s device and account settings where supported.
Restricting or disabling iCloud access may stop future synchronization on a device, but it does not necessarily delete records already stored in iCloud or on another synchronized device.
If you want to remove synchronized records, you may need to delete them within Macronio while synchronization is available and/or use Apple’s iCloud data-management options where applicable.
11.4 Delete Local Application Data
You can delete supported records in Macronio or uninstall the application to remove its local application container from that device.
Uninstalling does not necessarily remove synchronized CloudKit records or copies contained in Apple-managed backups.
11.5 Manage Subscription Information
If you subscribe to Macronio Premium, you can manage or cancel the subscription through your Apple Account’s subscription settings. Deleting the app does not automatically cancel a subscription.
11.6 Camera Permission
You can revoke Macronio’s camera access through iOS Settings. This prevents barcode and nutrition-label scanning until permission is granted again.
11.7 Contact Us
You may contact us at contact@marcelovitoria.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information that we directly control, such as support correspondence.
We may need to verify your request. We cannot provide or delete information that we do not possess or cannot access, including private records held solely on your device or within your private iCloud/CloudKit environment.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information we control, including the right to:
- Confirm whether we process your personal information;
- Obtain information about how it is processed;
- Request access to or a copy of it;
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Request deletion;
- Request anonymization, restriction, or blocking of unnecessary or unlawfully processed information;
- Object to certain processing;
- Withdraw consent;
- Request portability where legally applicable;
- Receive information about entities with which information has been shared;
- Lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority; and
- Not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.
These rights are subject to legal limitations and may not apply to information stored only on your device or within your private Apple iCloud account where we do not have access.
12.1 Brazil
If Brazil’s Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais (LGPD) applies, you may exercise the rights provided under the LGPD, including confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymization, blocking, deletion, portability where applicable, information about sharing, and withdrawal of consent.
Depending on how you use Macronio, some body-measurement, diet, nutrition, or health-related information may qualify as sensitive personal data under the LGPD and is handled according to the applicable legal requirements.
You may also lodge a complaint with Brazil’s Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados (ANPD).
12.2 European Economic Area and United Kingdom
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent. You may complain to the data-protection authority where you live, work, or believe a violation occurred.
Diet, nutrition, body-measurement, or health-related information may, depending on context, qualify as special-category data and receive additional legal protections.
Where information is transferred internationally, service providers may rely on recognized safeguards such as adequacy decisions or contractual protections.
12.3 California and Other United States Jurisdictions
Residents of California and certain other U.S. states may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information controlled by us, and to opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling.
Macronio does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising under the currently documented implementation.
13. International Processing
Apple, USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, and other infrastructure providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.
Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we and our providers rely on appropriate legal mechanisms and safeguards for international processing.
Macronio does not operate a separate server-side database for your private nutrition records. Local records remain on your device, while synchronized records are handled through Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit infrastructure under Apple’s applicable terms.
Food search and barcode lookup involve network requests to the applicable external service, which may process ordinary request information in the locations used to operate that service.
14. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to Macronio’s architecture, including:
- Local processing and storage where practical;
- Apple-provided application sandboxing;
- iOS device-security protections;
- Apple iCloud and CloudKit protections for synchronization;
- On-device OCR using Apple’s Vision framework;
- On-device barcode capture using AVFoundation;
- Encrypted network connections where supported by external APIs and Apple services;
- Data minimization in external food-search and barcode requests;
- Avoidance of third-party advertising and analytics SDKs under the currently documented implementation; and
- Regular maintenance and security updates.
No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining a secure device passcode, protecting your Apple Account, installing operating-system updates, and controlling who can access your device.
Macronio is a personal nutrition tracking application, not a secure medical-record vault. Do not use Macronio to store passwords, payment credentials, government identification documents, or medical records that are unrelated to its nutrition-tracking functions.
15. Children’s Privacy
Macronio is not directed to children under 13, or to children below the minimum age at which they may legally consent to the processing of personal information in their jurisdiction.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through a Macronio account system because Macronio does not provide a separate account system.
If you believe a child has sent personal information to us through a support request, contact us at contact@marcelovitoria.com so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
Parents or guardians should consider whether calorie, weight, and nutrition tracking is appropriate for a minor before allowing them to use the app.
16. Third-Party Services and Links
Macronio may rely on or link to third-party services, including Apple, USDA FoodData Central, and Open Food Facts.
We do not control their independent privacy practices. You should review their privacy policies and account settings before using their services.
Relevant provider information includes:
- Apple Privacy Policy
